A CT woman fatally shot mother of two following 2021 domestic dispute. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
A West Haven woman was sentenced to 35 years in prison this week after fatally shooting her girlfriend during a domestic dispute in New Haven in 2021, according to state officials.
Brianna Triplett, 34, was sentenced by Judge Elpedio N. Vitale after a jury convicted her of murder on Feb. 7 in New Haven Superior Court, according to New Haven State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr.
Triplett’s conviction stems from the shooting death of Dwaneia Alexandria Turner, 28, of New Haven on March 16, 2021. Prior to the shooting, Triplett, Turner and another woman were involved in a dispute, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.
Turner, a mother of two, was fatally shot by Triplett during the altercation and was found near a parked car on the intersection of Legion Avenue and Auburn Street, according to court records. She was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital and later pronounced dead, according to court records.
According to the affidavit, Triplett called 911 and told the dispatcher that Turner had attacked her. She then said she shot Turner and believed Turner had stopped breathing. Triplett later told police she and Turner had argued over their relationship that day, which later turned into a verbal altercation and then a physical fight, the affidavit said.
The third woman, a 28-year-old from West Haven who was friends with Turner, was found near Sylvan Avenue with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her hand, according to the affidavit.
“The New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office expresses its gratitude to the New Haven Police Department for their dedication and investigative efforts on this case,” Doyle said a statement.
