Who is attending the Coronation of King Charles III? Full list of confirmed and expected guests so far
More than 2,000 guests have been invited to the historic Coronation of King Charles III.
The King and Queen Camilla recently revealed their invitation designs, though we don’t yet know every person who received one.
Nor do we know much about who is attending the Westminster Abbey ceremony on Saturday, May 6.
All that said, there are already a few confirmed and expected names on the guest list.
We now know Prince Harry will be there after his attendance was confirmed by Buckingham Palace, though Meghan Markle will be staying behind in California with their children Lilibet and Archie, the latter of which will be celebrating his fourth birthday.
Let’s see who’s likely to be attending the royal event…
The Prince and Princess of Wales
Prince William and Catherine, The Princess of Wales will both be in attendance at the coronation.
Their eldest son, nine-year-old Prince George, will be a Page of Honour for The King during the ceremony.
Princess Charlotte will turn eight just days before the coronation on May 2, and is expected to be in attendance, as is her younger brother Prince Louis, who will have recently turned five.
The Duke of Sussex

The historic Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will take place in Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

Prince Harry will be in attendance at the coronation, it’s been confirmed.
Buckingham Palace revealed in a statement: ‘Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6.’
Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex will not attend the event, and will instead be at home with the couple’s children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
May 6 also happens to be Archie’s fourth birthday.
The UK Royal Family
As you’d expect, it’s thought the majority of Royal Family members will attend.
Anne, The Princess Royal and husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence will surely be there, along with their family.
Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh, wife Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh and their children Lady Louise Windsor and James, The Earl of Wessex will no doubt be there, too.
It has previously been reported that royals such as The Duke of Kent, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and Princess Alexandra will be in attendance and may even appear on Buckingham Palace’s balcony.
Queen Consort Camilla’s family
It won’t just be The King’s family in attendance, but The Queen Consort’s loved ones, too.
No doubt Camilla’s two children, Laura Lopes and Tom Parker Bowles, will be in attendance with their families – particularly as their children have a role to play in the ceremony.
The Queen Consort’s grandsons Freddy, aged 12, Louis and Gus, 14, plus her great-nephew Arthur Elliot, have been chosen as her Pages of Honour for the day’s events.
The Queen Consort has two other grandchildren, Lola, 16, and Eliza, 15.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and UK politicians
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be at the coronation, with wife Akshata Murthy expected to be invited, too.
Various Cabinet ministers will be invited to the historic ceremony crowning the new monarch, though according to the Daily Mail, they’ll be attending solo sans a plus one due to ‘extremely limited space’.
Westminster Abbey has a seating capacity of around 2,200.
It’s also expected that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer will be there, and reports suggest that former UK Prime Ministers will also attend.
Sinn Féin’s vice-president Michelle O’Neill
Michelle O’Neill, the vice-president of Irish republican party Sinn Féin, has said she will be attending the coronation.
She said: ‘I have accepted an invitation to attend the coronation of King Charles III.
‘We are living in a time of great change. A time to respect our differing and equally legitimate aspirations, a time to firmly focus on the future and the opportunities that the next decade will bring.
‘I am an Irish republican. I also recognise there are many people on our island for whom the coronation is a hugely important occasion.’
US First Lady Dr Jill Biden
President Joe Biden won’t be able to make the ceremony at Westminster Abbey – so Dr Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, will attend in his stead.
The White House explained that President Biden had informed The King by telephone, adding: ‘The President congratulated The King on his upcoming coronation and informed him that First Lady Jill Biden looks forward to attending on behalf of the United States.’
French president Emmanuel Macron and world leaders
The Times reports that France’s President Emmanuel Macron will come to the coronation.
The BBC adds that Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda, and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are also due to attend.
It’s likely that many more leaders and representatives from around the globe will appear at the coronation, too, including from Commonwealth nations.
Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco
Back in January 2023, Prince Albert of Monaco told People magazine that he and Princess Charlene would attend.
He shared: ‘[I] don’t know how many coronations of an English monarch I’ll see in my lifetime, so we’ll try to take advantage of that.
‘I’m certain that it’s going to be an incredible ceremony and a very moving one. I’m certain His Majesty will add his own ‘personal touches’ to the ceremonies. But what those will be, I’m sure I don’t know.’
European royal families
Many more European royal houses have now confirmed they will be represented at the coronation, too.
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark are due to attend, as it seems Queen Margrethe II will not. The Danish monarch, 83, recently had back surgery.
Other royals set to be there include:
- King Carl XVI Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden
- Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway
- King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain
- King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands
- King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium
- Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg
Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko of Japan
Japan’s royals, the Imperial Family, have confirmed that Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko of Japan will travel to London for the coronation, says Tatler.
They will attend on behalf of the Crown Prince’s brother, Emperor Naruhito and his wife Empress Masako.
Dame Joanna Lumley
Absolutely Fabulous legend Dame Joanna Lumley will add a bit of star power to the guestlist.
Sky News says the actress is set to join the broadcaster’s coverage of the event after attending.
While it’s not yet known if any other celebrities will attend, we do now know the line-up for the celebratory coronation concert, which includes Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Take That.
Around 450 ‘community champions’
In addition to family, royals and world leaders, plenty of ‘community champions’ from around the UK have also received invites.
The BBC reports that 450 people who have received British Empire Medals (BEM) for their charity work have received invites to the Westminster Abbey ceremony – many of whom will surely attend.
A further 400 young people from organisations such as The Prince’s Trust, Girlguiding UK and St John’s Ambulance have been invited to a private viewing of the ceremony at a nearby church, it adds.
