Princess Anne has an important role to play on the day of King Charles‘ coronation.

The 72-year-old Princess Royal is the King’s only sister and has a reputation for being one of the most dedicated members of the royal family.

According to a new report, she was “incredibly honored” to accept the role King Charles has for her during his big day.

The Mirror reported that Princess Anne would be the “Gold-Stick-in-Waiting” during King Charles‘ coronation procession. It’s a historic title that has its roots in the 15th century.

What does the role entail? Basically, the Princess will follow behind the King and Queen Camilla and lead a group of 6,000 service members. Her duty is to stand in to protect her brother from any dangers that might arise.

In a historic context, the Gold Stick was paired with a Silver Stick. It is unclear if someone will be filling that role alongside her.

King Charles reportedly personally offered Princess Anne the role.

“He is rewarding the Princess Royal for her loyalty and her unwavering devotion to duty above all else,” a source told the outlet. “The King values his sister as a trusted lieutenant and this is the perfect example of such a relationship.”
