Derry City vs St. Patrick’s Ath. – Friday 28th April 2023 – KO 7.45pm – Brandywell
SSE Airtricity League of Ireland – Premier Division
Match sponsored by FAST Technologies
There’s another packed week of football coming up for League of Ireland clubs with the Candystripes welcoming St Pats to the Brandywell on Friday in the first of three matches in eight days.
The Inchicore side had climbed into the top four on the back of four wins on the spin before defeat to Shamrock Rovers last time out.
City’s assistant manager, Paddy McLaughlin insisted that the visitors would be a very tough nut to crack, but that the emphasis would be on the home team to press for a win that would see them maintain second place in the current league table.
“It shows you the strength of the league that teams are capable of putting runs together” he said.
“They’re an in-form side and they’re scoring goals, so no doubt it’s a difficult game for us.”
“That said, I’ve spent a lot of time with our lads over the past ten days or so and the trip to Cork helped me to get to know the players and staff a bit better.”
“I have to say that the quality in our squad has been a real eye-opener. There is so much talent in there and I honestly believe that this side is capable of beating anyone in the country on their day.”
“What we do have to do better is make home advantage count and that’s exactly what we’ll be trying to do on Friday night.”
In terms of injuries, the City number two said there would be few, if any, changes to the squad that won at Turner’s Cross last weekend.
“We played really well in Cork and thoroughly deserved to win, and now we have to try to back that up against St Pats.”
“We have no fresh injury concerns and both Cameron Dummigan and Mark Connolly are another week closer to a return.”
“Obviously, we won’t take any unnecessary chances so if we have to work off the same panel for another couple of games- so be it.”
“As I said we have a high quality squad of players and we’re more than happy with our options.”
The game kicks off at 7.45 and will be streamed live on LOITV.
