Former CT public works official convicted of illegally dumping hazardous materials on town property

A former public works superintendent for the city of Fairfield was found guilty on Wednesday of multiple counts related to illegally dumping hazardous materials on town property, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Scott Bartlett, 60, was convicted of eight felony charges, including three counts of transporting solid waste to an unpermitted facility, three counts of receiving solid waste at an unpermitted facility, disposing of solid waste without a permit and operating a solid waste facility without a permit, Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin said in a statement.

The Fairfield Police Department and the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office conducted a lengthy investigation into illegal dumping operations at the Town of Public Works property on Richard White Way in Fairfield. According to court records, Bartlett, Fairfield’s former public works superintendent, was involved in the dumping of contaminated and hazardous materials at the property from May until June 2018.

Bartlett’s sentencing is scheduled for May 16 in Fairfield, according to the DCJ.
