The Opposition Know Now – Former Everton Star Advises Toffees Player To Make Change To Approach
The 27-year-old midfielder is spending his fourth season with Everton and has been a regular, starting all 34 league games for the Toffees this season.
Iwobi scored his second goal of the season against Leicester City on Monday to help Sean Dyche’s side to a 2-2 draw.
Ball, however, was not impressed by Iwobi’s performance and stated that the player needs to change his game as opposition players are aware of the Everton star’s fondness for getting inside.
The former Toffees defender believes that Iwobi has the quality to torment any defender in the Premier League and highlighted that the player needs to put in more crosses when he is running to the byline.
Ball also pointed out that Iwobi has to stop being wasteful when he is in possession of the ball and advised the Everton star to be clever during the games.
“If you get to that byline and put the ball in, he can bully any defender in the Premier League, like he did for providing the assist for our goal”, Ball wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“Dwight McNeil didn’t even look up, put it in, Dominic Calvert-Lewin wins a flick-on, Iwobi goal.
“That’s football intelligence as you can do all the tricks you want on the halfway line but it’s no good moving just five yards forward like it’s the NFL.
“If you’re not being productive in possession, you need to start asking questions of yourself as for all the stick Iwobi gets, he won’t hide but clever footballers make the game look easy for each other.
“I’m not trying to change his game but add to it because he needs to change things up as the full-backs know he’s going inside every time.”
Everton are deep in the relegation battle and they will be hoping Iwobi finds his best form to help their cause.
