Weekend preview: Bassett face potentially decisive Ilminster trip
Royal Wootton Bassett Town visit Ilminster Town in their penultimate South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division fixture of the season on Sunday (2pm kick off).
The match will be a potentially decisive one in determining Bassett's fate.
Last weekend's results mean that Bassett need four points from their final two games to guarantee that they will not finish bottom of the table.
One win and one defeat could potentially be enough too – however, Simon Harrison's side would also need to overcome a three-goal deficit on goal difference.
Having beaten Ilminster 5-0 when the teams met in Wiltshire just three weeks ago, Bassett will be hopeful that they can get the win they need to keep their hopes of survival alive.
However, a tough contest is in store – not least given that win was Bassett's first ever against their Somerset opponents.
Ilminster, sitting two places above Bassett in eighth but in no danger of going down, have also enjoyed a strong home campaign– and victory will give them a chance of finishing the season with a winning record at home, with another fixture to come against Sherborne Town.
A hugely important fixture, here's hoping Bassett will be celebrating three vital points on the long journey home.
