The centenary edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours next month is set to be a once-in-a-lifetime motorsport event. Here are some news items from the schedule, which is filling up fast.
The museum will be packed with winning cars!
An exclusive exhibition will be held at the circuit museum, from June 1st to July 2nd, featuring 86 cars from the history of the 24 Hours, 65 of which are winning cars.
The Grande Exposition du Centenaire des 24 Heures du Mans will be open every day from 1 June to 2 July 2023 from 10:00 to 19:00. Visitors will be able to see the exhibition, organised in partnership with Peter Auto, at two events: the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Le Mans Classic.
Two guided tours will be available at 10:30 and 14:30 every day through June, except during 24 Hours of Le Mans race week.
Test day shortened
Track time on the Le Mans Test Day on June 4th will run from 10 am to 1 pm and from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. That’s two fewer hours of practice than normal because a Ligier European Series race is scheduled to take place that afternoon from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The Ligier European Series debuted in 2022 as part of the Le Mans 24 Hours support package with two highly entertaining races. DSC believes the entry list for this year’s single race is likely to feature more than 40 cars across the JS P4 and JS 2R classes.
Pit stop challenge returns
The Pit Stop Challenge returns to the Le Mans 24 Hours event in 2023. It will be held on Tuesday, June 6 for a second consecutive year.
It features many of the teams in the event competing against each other with timed pit stops.
Additional exhibition planned for June 7th
On Wednesday, June 7, The Ford Racing Team Le Mans association is organizing a spectacular exhibition of racing cars to celebrate the Centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The exhibition will feature some 120 vehicles, including a showcase of some 80 machines that have competed in the 24 Hours over the last century, and sports cars from prestigious brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and McLaren.
A selection of American GTs such as the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Corvette, the AC Cobra and the Mercury Cougar will also be displayed.
A host of stalls selling paintings, sculptures, model cars and graphic novels will be present at the full-day event (09:00–18:00), held in the Le Mans cathedral square.
Packed programme on Friday
Friday will be a very busy day at La Sarthe. Support races are scheduled in the morning before the driver’s parade in downtown Le Mans which will be held earlier than usual (from 2-4:30 pm) and a night centenary parade starting at 7 pm.
Fireworks and drones
On race day, in the evening a firework and drone display is planned as part of a “centenary show.”
