Four Marin swimmers advance to second day at State
The 50-yard freestyle was the top event for Marin County swimmers on Friday during the preliminary races at the CIF State Meet in Clovis.
Besides Tam High’s Marre Gattnar, who qualified third with a time of 20.14 seconds, Micah Sher of Archie Williams had the 13th-fastest time in 20.62 to secure a spot in the consolation finals.
Sher won the 50 free at the MCAL championships with a time of 21.21. He did not advance in the 100 free, swimming a 46.52 for 30th.
Gattnar also qualified fourth fastest for the 100 back in 48.25.
Novato’s Bryden Thielenhaus made the consolation finals in the 100 butterfly after clocking the 13th best time of the day in 49.11. In the 200 free, he finished 23rd with a 1:40.57.
Mia Solomon of Redwood was the only MCAL girl to advance, turning in a 1:03.56 in the 100 breaststroke for 13th.
The Redwood girls 200 medley relay team of Adeline Turner, Solomon, Kallen Wank and Amelia Loiacono did not advance, finishing in 24th in 1:47.75. The Giants were 26th in the 200 free relay in 1:39.03; Wank, Solomon and Loiacono were joined by Kate DeForrest.
The Marin Catholic girls were 28th in the 200 free relay with a 1:39.71 behind Holly Tarantino, Bella Kiriakis, Alyssa Kooy and Esme Quay. The Wildcats had edged Redwood for first in the 200 free relay at the MCAL championships.
Redwood’s Nicholas Scruton placed 28th in the 500 free in 4:38.39.
