'Step closer': Glazers ready to enter 'final talks' after picking preferred Man Utd bidder
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has moved a significant step closer to securing Manchester United with the Glazers and Raine Group ready to discuss the sale of the club, The Times report.
Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim have been the front-runners to purchase United over recent months but the former seem to have the upper hand at the moment.
The British billionaire reportedly values the club close to £6 billion and it is claimed that a deal with him would allow Avram and Joel Glazer to retain a 20 per cent stake.
On the other hand, the Qataris’ third and final offer for a complete takeover (100%) is said to be less than £5 billion. They could yet make an-11th hour bid, as per The Times.
As things stand, the Glazers and Raine Group are prepared to enter final talks with Ratcliffe and his INEOS team to finalise a world-record transfer for a sports team.
Ratcliffe clear favourite to complete Man Utd takeover
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has come up with the best proposal on the table for the Glazers. It seems clear that Avram and Joel want a minority stake at the club going forward.
Most of the United faithful may not like the proposal. The Glazer siblings have taken money out of the club through regular dividends despite the increasing debts.
As per The Athletic, the Red Devils owe more than £1 billion in debts and the owners have not shown any desire to dip into their own pockets to bankroll the club.
Hence, the Glazers must leave the club entirely. Ratcliffe reportedly has a proposal to buy them out in 2026 but the fans would prefer their immediate departure.
Last year, Clearlake Capital Group won the bid to takeover Chelsea ahead of another preferred bidder. Hopefully, the Qataris will make a late proposal too good to refuse for the Glazers.
