Varane & Martial start | Expected Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Manchester United are scheduled to host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this afternoon.
The Red Devils have lost back-to-back games in the top-flight and they are currently only one point ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool.
However, they have a game in hand over the Merseyside outfit and are still in pole position to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
United need a maximum of three wins to finish in the top four. Manager Erik ten Hag will expect a strong performance against Wolves today.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
David de Gea had another poor outing against West Ham United last weekend. His blunder allowed Said Benrahma to open the scoring in the 27th minute. It was enough to hand the Hammers with the victory.
Ten Hag has been supportive of his goalkeeper since the incident. The Spaniard will be aiming to redeem himself against Wolves. He will be eyeing his 16th clean sheet of the top-flight campaign.
At the back, we anticipate Aaron Wan-Bissaka to continue at right-back but there could be changes elsewhere. With Raphael Varane fit after an ankle injury, he is likely to partner Victor Lindelof in central defence.
Luke Shaw has been in good form from the heart of the defence but the Englishman should revert to his preferred left-back role with Varane available for selection after a gap of four weeks.
In midfield, Ten Hag is likely to go with his preferred duo of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. In front of them, it should be Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role. He is an assured starter.
Last weekend’s loss was the first defeat for United when the trio have started together.
Further forward, Antony is expected to continue on the right wing. We should see Wout Weghorst dropped for Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has a point to prove as the main striker.
With Marcus Rashford ‘more than doubtful‘ with a leg injury, Jadon Sancho could be reinstated into the line-up from the left wing. Alejandro Garnacho could feature off the bench after a two-month injury lay-off.
