Woman found dead in her home in Surrey village after cops rush to welfare call as man and woman in their 60s arrested
AN ELDERLY couple have been arrested after a woman in her 50s was found dead in her home in a Surrey Village.
The pair, both in their 60s, were taken into custody last night as part of a murder probe into the mysterious death.
The alleged murder victim was found in a property in Ash, Surrey, at around 5.50pm that day.
Cops rushed to the home after a call from paramedics raising concern for the woman’s welfare.
The dead woman has not yet been formally identified.
A Home Office pathologist was expected to carry out a post-mortem examination on the body today to determine the cause of death.
Neighbours said that shouting could be heard coming from the house a few days before the body was discovered.
One local resident, Richard Folks, said that the dead woman was “very kind”.
He said: “She is a nice person – she always helps other people. She’s very kind.
“She doesn’t work, she is disabled. She doesn’t get on with the upstairs neighbour but everybody has that problem. It wasn’t too bad, just normal neighbour things.
“It is a little bit upsetting. There are lots of police cars and all the different coloured tape, the blue tape is up, they have got tents outside. It’s an uncomfortable feeling.”
Surrey Police confirmed the arrests and that both suspects remain in custody as they are questioned.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers were called to a property in Church View at around 5.50pm by the South East Coast Ambulance Service following a concern for safety.
“On arrival, a woman aged in her 50s was sadly found dead inside the property.
“An investigation, led by Surrey and Sussex’s Major Crime Team, is now underway to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death and inquiries remain ongoing.”
Inspector Blaine Rafferty added: “The investigation is in the early stages as we work to establish the cause and circumstances around this death. However, we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.
“We have a dedicated team of investigators working on this case and specialist forensic officers remain at the scene.
“I would like to thank local residents for their cooperation as we conduct our investigation, and we will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.”
