Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has secured a ninth term in the state assembly, winning in the Varuna constituency by over 46,000 votes. The senior Congress leader won 1,19,430 votes compared with 73,424 won by his nearest rival, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s V Somanna. Siddaramaiah moved to contest in Chamundeshwari and Badami in 2018, but lost in the former and won the latter with a slim margin of 1,996 votes.
