The Aam Aadmi Party candidate, Sushil Kumar Rinku, won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll, which has been a Congress stronghold for the past 24 years. Rinku defeated his closest rival, Congress's Karamjit Kaur, by a margin of over 58,000 votes. BJP nominee Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal and ShiromAkali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi were placed third and fourth, respectively. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of Karamjit Kaur's husband and Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary. The voter turnout was 54.70%, well below the 63.04% recorded in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
