SN Channabasappa of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Shimoga Assembly seat by defeating Congress's HC Yogesh by 27,000 votes. The BJP had fielded Channabasappa in place of KS Eshwarappa, who was denied a ticket, while Congress decided to field a young leader from the constituency.
