Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate all that mothers do. It’s a day when I feel a little extra proud of my role as a mom, and reflect on how grateful I am to be mom to my incredible kids. I have to admit, however, that it feels important to also express my frustration that the title of mom continues to be the only one we universally celebrate for people who identify as women. We can’t acknowledge moms without recognizing that mothers continue to face disproportionate pressures and shame when it comes to embracing parts of ourselves that expand our identity beyond motherhood.
