The Jaffna Fort in Sri Lanka was restored with Dutch money about a decade ago, to the surprise of the author. The civil war had only recently ended, and the area was not the tourist destination that it is now. However, when the author went back years later, the fort was well-integrated into the walls and the fresher stones had become worn.
