Afghan Customs Prevent Smuggling Tons of Precious Stones to Pakistan

Taliban’s Ministry of Finance announced that customs officials at the Torkham border have prevented the smuggling of at least ten tons of precious stones including crushed lithium stones, valuable statues and gemstone beds to Pakistan.

Taliban officials have said the recovered precious items belonged to a local mining company, which will be death with accordingly.

The seized consignment included lithium stones, statues and gemstone beds. These cultural artifacts hold immense historical and cultural significance, representing Afghanistan’s rich heritage.

The successful operation represents a major blow to criminal networks engaged in illegally trading Afghanistan’s national resources and cultural heritage to neighboring countries and beyond.

It is reported that the illicit trade of precious stones and valuable artifacts to the neighboring countries and the region is not a new business. The lucrative trade run by criminal networks has loathed Afghanistan’s national resources under different regimes over a decade of turmoil and political conflicts.

On Saturday, the finance ministry in a statement said the customs authorities strictly monitor prohibited and smuggled goods in all Afghan customs and will not allow anyone to export or import goods without going through legal channels.

Furthermore, it was also stated that Afghanistan’s interim government is fully committed to enhancing border security and combating illegal trade of commercial goods to the country and abroad.
