Preview – St. Patrick’s Ath. v Derry City
St. Patrick’s Ath. v Derry City – Monday 5th June 2023 – KO 6.45pm – Richmond Park
SSE Airtricity League of Ireland – Premier Division
The Candystripes are back in Dublin on Monday evening with a game against in-form St Patrick’s Athletic next up for Ruaidhri Higgins’ team.
Friday night’s draw at home to Shelbourne saw the Brandywell side drop to second place in the table- one point behind Shamrock Rovers who beat Dundalk- however the Derry manager wasn’t getting caught up in that for now.
“There have been plenty of twists and turns so far this season and there will be plenty more to come” he said.
“We wanted to stay in the mix while we recovered from several injury setbacks and we’ve managed to do that.
“I keep saying they’re all big games when you’re looking to challenge, and Monday’s is certainly that.
“St Pats are on a great run and are probably the league’s in-form team at this minute in time.”
“Jon Daly and his staff have done a superb job since joining the club and they have quality all over the pitch.
“Inchicore is a venue we enjoy playing at and while I’m expecting a very difficult evening, I believe we have the quality to go there and try to get three points.
“We’re delighted that Mark Connolly played the full 90 minutes on Friday night and Patrick McEleney only came off in the last 10 minutes with cramp on a very warm night.
“The squad is getting closer to full fitness, obviously with the exception of Colm Whelan and Ciaron Harkin, and we will continue to improve as a result.
Sadou Diallo returns to the City squad for Monday’s game following his one match ban and with no fresh concerns, Derry do have options at their disposal.
The game at Richmond Park kicks off at 6.45 and will be shown live on Virgin Media.
