I’m a dog trainer and there’s one warning sign your dog isn’t happy around others – here’s what you need to change
A DOG EXPERT has revealed the warning sign your pup isn’t happy around other dogs.
Southend Dog Training shared the clip on TikTok, and revealed what to do when your dog gives you these warning signs.
In the clip, the dog trainer said: “If your dog does this, it needs you to stick up for them.”
The dog trainer had a small dog on leash with someone else holding a larger dog to demonstrate the problem.
As the larger dog came closer, the small dog went low down on it’s stomach.
But it wasn’t a sign of being well-mannered – it meant the dog was scared.
He revealed: “A well-mannered submissive dog, like, well-mannered, well-behaved will go down with their head low, non-threatening.”
“But a nervous dog will go down so low and even expose their belly,” the dog trainer explained.
This could cause problems between the two dogs he warned.
“If I didn’t interrupt there then the dog stands straight over him and then quickly if your dog panics or that dog steps on your dog and your dog squeals , it becomes a squeaky toy,” he cautioned.
The dog pro demonstrated what to do in this scenerio and it’s super easy.
He quickly jumped in between the two dogs, to show the smaller dog he had his back.
“Advocate for your dog,” he captioned the post.
The video has gone viral with over four million views and over 190k likes.
People were quick to comment on the post sharing their thoughts.
One person wrote: “Thank you!! I got told off at dog training for not just walking away and ignoring him when he squeals and hides behind me through fear.”
Another commented: “Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.”
“Exactly this happened to me, I will know better next time (shook up both me and me dog),” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “Oh my god my dog does this all the time and I thought it was him asking to play! Glad I seen this.”
“Your dog knowledge is amazing. Thanks for sharing,” claimed a fifth.
