Harry Kane thinks artificial intelligence could help him with injury problems
Harry Kane has said that advances in Artificial Intelligence can help athletes avoid injuries by detecting issues before they surface.
Kane is no stranger to injuries, having suffered multiple serious ankle injuries as well as a major hamstring injury in his career (Transfermarkt).
In fact, it was just a few years ago that the centre-forward was considered by many to be injury-prone but he has largely been able to stay injury free since 2020.
The 29-year-old has recruited the services of Canadian-based sports medicine specialist Dr Alejandro Elorriaga Claraco as his personal physician and had previously credited him with helping to cure his long-standing ankle problems (Daily Mail).
Reuters have now revealed that Harry Kane has joined hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky among the latest investors in OxeFit, which uses technology to help top-level athletes detect abnormalities and avoid injuries.
The Tottenham man bemoaned the fact that a number of leading players will miss this year’s Women’s World Cup and talked up the role of AI in injury prevention.
He told Reuters: “It’s been a real shame to see some of the women players go down with those injuries and big injuries as well.
“Injury prevention is something that is the most important thing to me. It (will) only get more impressive and more with AI will get better.
“And hopefully, in the long run, we’ll start kind of seeing less and less injuries.”
Kane also discussed OxeFit technology’s ability to detect when an athlete might be favouring one side over another.
He added: “You’ve got a little issue on your left side or your right side and you need to even out because when you’re playing game after game, all you’re doing is just putting more impact on maybe the weaker side.”

Sports science is currently going through a revolution due to the improvements in big data and AI.
The importance of recovery for example is increasingly emphasised, which is why many top athletes are now able to prolong their careers into their late thirties.
I have no doubts that Kane would be able to do the same.
