I’m a hair whizz – how to care for your locks while on holiday, you’re missing a key step BEFORE getting in the pool
A PROFESSIONAL hairstylist has revealed the three simple steps you should take to look after your hair on holiday – including the key one you’re missing before diving into the pool.
We’ve all been there – you might be feeling relaxed and refreshed after a week in the sun, but sadly your hair’s looking anything but.
Dry ends and straggly lengths are a common problem after a few days of being dosed in pool and seawater.
Luckily Matt Newman has shared the three steps we should all be taking to protect our locks during the summer months.
And apparently, the key one we’re all missing is rinsing our hair in fresh water BEFORE diving into the pool.
He said: “Hair tips for pool days.
“Start by soaking your hair with fresh water which is going to block the chlorinated water from absorbing.
“Soak your strands in leave-in conditioner. This is another barrier from the chlorine.
“The minute you’re out of the pool, rinse that chlorine.
“Summer fun can be tough on our hair but these lil tips can help!”
Shoppers can pick up leave-in conditioners, like the Aussie Hair Insurance Leave in Hair Conditioner Spray, from retailers like Superdrug for as little as £3.33.

In the comments, TikTokkers shared their reactions, with one writing: “Wish I knew this before I fried my hair in Greece last week.”
“Wait soaking the hair before chlorine is something I’ve never thought of,” commented another.
A third suggested: “Use coconut oil, I’m a swimmer and it really helps and wash your hair right after.”
“As a swimmer, all of this is true, and I do none of it,” quipped one other.
Although not all were convinced these steps were necessary, with another adding: “Tbh, I’d rather just let all my hair fall out.”
“Girl I’m a competitive swimmer and swim every day and my hair is healthy you’ll be fine,” shared someone else.
