A Lap Around Antioch with Candice – Post June 3, 2023

I’m very happy when I can say we had a hit. The Soares Memorial race on Saturday was a hit. It was another of our better crowds this year. We’re still not where we need to be, but we had reason to smile at the end of this night. The car count was good and the racing was good to watch from start to finish. The track even held up pretty nicely.
We have some good drivers in our group, not the least of which is Troy Foulger. He always seems to come up big with more money on the line. It’s interesting to watch Jason Ryan Jr emerge as a championship contender, and the Late Models had 14 cars. That’s really a good number for that division in this day and age. What a show we had.
I had done some special plaque awards for the drivers in memory of the family, and they were received well. Money comes and goes, But awards are something they can display for years. When I’m able to help contribute these types of awards or trophies, I do it. We even had a couple of Trophy Dashes with trophies to the winners, something we don’t do all the time.
I’m hoping we are establishing some momentum as we head into the big Dwarf Car event. On Sunday, I did the MC duties for the Rick Panfili Celebration of Life. That went well. Rick was a good friend, and I miss him. As a historian of the track, I’m asked to do things like this. I hurt over the losses I’ve had in my own life. It’s tough to do these things, but I’m honored to be asked and to bring some comfort to my friends.
In any case, everybody is working real hard to make this special every week. I’m already planning the next awards and a couple of special things. I’ll need help on those, but if it all works out, we’ll keep you posted. We’re doing our best to keep the show going, and I’m proud of everybody out here. Chad Chadwick has put together a good team that I think he can be proud of. Hopefully, I’m making him proud.
