Two men charged, one wanted following shooting threat at Wendy’s in Windsor Locks over food order
One man is wanted and two men were arrested and charged following a police chase on Monday after one of the suspects threatened to shoot employees at a Wendy’s in Windsor Locks because they “were unsatisfied” with the food they ordered in the drive-through, police said.
Police received a 911 call around 7 p.m. on Monday reporting that a man had threatened to shoot workers at the Wendy’s on Route 75 and then fled in a BMW with two other men, according to the Windsor Locks Police Department.
Officers learned that the three men ordered food through the drive-through and weren’t happy with their order, so they reportedly went into the Wendy’s to make a complaint about their food. Once inside, police allege that the suspects threatened to shoot the employees and stick a gun into one of their mouths.
One of the employees reported seeing a gun in their car when they were at the drive-through, according to police.
Police spotted the BMW the men were in and chased them onto Route 20, where their tires were punctured by stop sticks. The BMW kept going as police chased them onto Interstate 91 South where the driver tried to ram his car into a police cruiser multiple times, police said.
The BMW’s tires began to deflate and fall apart near Exit 38A, so the three men got out, ran into the woods and jumped a fence, allowing the BMW to roll back into a police cruiser, according to police. Officers were able to detain one of the men, identified as Govanni Isiah Nelson, 20, of Springfield Gardens, New York, and deployed K-9 Rocko to help catch the other two.
The K-9 located and apprehended a second suspect identified as 20-year-old Kenneth Raheem Harris of Hartford. Harris had a black small bag recovered by the K-9 reportedly filled with white powder that spilled into the air and onto the dog and his handling officer. Police were concerned that the officer and dog were exposed to fentanyl and other illegal narcotics that could be fatal, but both were treated and released, police said.
The Connecticut State Police aided in the chase, deploying a drone and a helicopter.
Officers searched the suspects’ vehicle and reportedly found 90 grams of crack, a pistol with an extended magazine, narcotics packaged for sale and drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Nelson was charged with first-degree threatening, possession of a controlled substance, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, interfering with police, sale of narcotics and breach of peace, police said.
Harris was charged with illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a controlled substance, interfering with police, illegal sale of cannabis, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, breach of peace and carrying a pistol without a permit, according to police.
Both men are being held on a $100,000 bond and were scheduled to appear in court on June 6, police said.
The search for the third man continued at the scene on Tuesday, where police found a second handgun. The suspect had not been located as of Tuesday evening and the investigation was ongoing.
