Jealous maths teacher who stabbed wife of her ex-lover jailed for 22 years
A MATHS teacher who stabbed the wife of her ex-lover has been jailed for more than 22 years.
Clare Bailey, 44, attacked Emma Russell, 43, after her husband ended their affair following a “handful” of meetings over “a couple of years”.
She wore a red wig and Covid mask and held flowers as she called at his family home — before stabbing and slashing his wife with a carving knife.
Emma survived last June’s attack in Harrogate, North Yorks, but suffered serious neck arm and abdominal injuries, Leeds crown court heard.
Bailey, of Dudley, West Mids, admitted attempted murder and was jailed for 22 years and four months.
The judge told her she must serve two-thirds of that sentence in custody.
Judge Robin Mairs told Bailey Emma was “very much the target of your jealousy.”
The judge said: “That morning you sent messages to her husband about how much you loved him…”
The judge said of the victim: “What you did dominates her days and haunts her nights.”
Bailey was also made the subject of an indefinite restraining order.
