BBC Breakfast viewers slam show as as they all make the same complaint
BBC Breakfast fans were left fuming after making the same complaint about today’s show.
The BBC programme was today fronted by Roger Johnson, 54, and Sarah Campbell, 50 – who left fans delighted when she was promoted to the main anchor role earlier this year.
The duo are much-loved by BBC Breakfast fans – yet loyal telly viewers were less than impressed with the content of the three-hour long episode.
This was because a huge chunk of the show was taken up with coverage of Manchester City’s epic UEFA Champion’s League win against Inter Milan yesterday.
The British side came out tops in a closely-fought 1-0 victory in Turkey.
Yet fans were cheesed off by what they dubbed an “a overload of football” on the news-centred show.
One mused on Twitter: “Football, Royal tittle tattle and “ novelty” items will always take precedent on #bbcbreakfast.”
Another put: “BBC Breakfast and #skynews has their main story as the football.
“F**k the football there is a more important story thats going on in the country this morning.
A third added: “Starting to get cheesed off with the ‘dross’ that is becoming BBC Breakfast.”
One then put: “So the main news is that a football team won a game. Nothing else happening in the world then.”
Even anchors Roger and Sarah made a joke about the saturation of football content in one link.
Sarah asked her co-host: “Is there only one sports story in town at the moment Roger?”
He then replied: “Seems like it!
“Although I’m sure there are other stories, it is all about Istanbul isn’t it this morning and Manchester City’s first Champion’s League.”
They then crossed over to correspondent John Watson who was in Turkey where the clash had taken place.
Then followed a nine-minute segment covering everything from the victory itself to fan celebrations and the upcoming parade on home turf.
Yesterday, John suffered a cringe-worthy moment as he was interrupted by a football fan during his live broadcast.
During his live segment on Saturday’s segment to covers the footage from outside the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, John had his flow interrupted by a passerby.
Taking it all in his stride the presenter quickly glanced up as a man tried to stop him speaking to ask a question, apparently not noticing the camera or microphone.
However, the awkward TV blunder did not go unnoticed by fans who rushed to Twitter to revel in the unfortunate moment.
“Cringe!,” joked one viewer.
