CT man killed in Torrington motorcycle crash
A 27-year-old man was killed Saturday night after his motorcycle was struck in a head-on crash in Torrington, police said.
Officers responded to reports of a crash on Winsted Road near the intersection with South Road about 10 p.m. Saturday and found Jesse Christiano, 27, of Torrington, unconscious with life-threatening injuries, according to the Torrington Police Department.
Christiano had been thrown from his motorcycle, police said, and was found on the shoulder on Winsted Road.
He was flown to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar and was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived, police said.
The Torrington Police Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and determined that Christiano had been driving south on Winsted Road when he pulled off on the shoulder to either turn onto South Road or make a U-turn. He was struck head-on by a Toyota Corolla driven by a 22-year-old heading south on Winsted Road, police said.
The Toyota driver was not injured in the crash and was cooperating with investigators, police said.
Winsted Road was closed to traffic as investigators were on scene but reopened about 4 a.m.
The investigation into the crash was ongoing. Anyone with information or surveillance footage is asked to contact Detective Segui at the Torrington Police Department at 860-489-2000.
A fundraiser was launched Sunday to help Christiano’s family pay for funeral expenses.
