WITH our weekly shop jumping up in price every week, we’re all trying to find ways to get more for our money.

Luckily one savvy mum is on a mission to find the cheapest supermarket and has compared the price of everyday essentials to see who offers the best value for money

In a bid to find the cheapest supermarket, Sophie compared the price of butter to see which retailer came out on top

Sophie headed to six retailers, including Aldi, Lidl, ASDA, and Sainsbury’s, to compare the price of margarine – and was left stunned by the results.

She said: “I went to six different supermarkets in the UK to compare the price of butter, and I was actually really surprised by this one.

“I didn’t expect Lidl to be so far down, and it didn’t follow the normal pattern but there you go.”

During the 12-second reel, Sophie is seen picking up own-brand soft spread or margarine from all six retailers, and revealing how much a tub set her back in each.

According to Sophie’s test, Coming in as the most expensive was Waitrose, where a tub of the sandwich spread was priced at £1.50.

Next, which surprised the savvy shopper, was Lidl, who charged £1.29 for their own-brand version.

Sainsbury’s and Tesco were price-matched, both offering the essential for £1.10.

But the cheapest supermarkets, by 51p, were both Aldi and Lidl, which Sophie claimed were selling a tub for just 99p each.

Below the video, she added: “I was quite surprised by this one, to be honest!

“There also wasn’t such a huge price difference between the highest & lowest!

“I’ve definitely noticed the price of butter has increased though.”

Her comparison attracted plenty of attention online, gaining more than 37 likes and 7,600 views.

Known online as @budgetmumsoph, the content creator regularly shares money-saving tips and budget-friendly dinner ideas with her 14,700 followers.

Although not all were convinced the shopper should even be buying the spread, with one TikTokker commenting: “Those are all full of chemicals and not healthy.”
