Club’s latest statement seems to rule out a potential Harry Kane deal with Spurs
Bayern Munich’s new president Herbert Hainer has said that the Bundesliga club will only be able to spend €100m (£85.9m) on new recruits this summer, which seemingly ends any chance they had of signing Harry Kane.
While we have heard nothing from Kane’s camp at present regarding his future, reports from Spain over the last couple of weeks have suggested that Real Madrid are now the front-runners to sign the striker.
Outlets such as Marca and Sport reported a little over a week ago that the England captain is keen to make the switch to the Spanish capital while Daniel Levy is open to selling Spurs’ talisman to a club outside the Premier League.
However, since then, other publications have suggested that Los Blancos are having doubts about spending big on the Tottenham man this summer (Relevo).
Reports over recent days have also claimed that Manchester United are ‘unlikely’ to pursue Kane due to Spurs’ unwillingness to enter into talks with Premier League sides (Sky Sports).
The one other destination that has been mooted for the 29-year-old this summer is Bayern Munich, with The Athletic reporting last week that the Bavarians have not yet given up on their pursuit of the Tottenham man.
Bayern Munich don’t seem to have budget for Kane
However, Hainer has now said that while Bayer do wish to land a centre-forward, they only have a total budget of around £86m this summer.
He told Bild (as translated by Sport Witness): “Yes, I said that FC Bayern are able to spend €100m. But everything has to be right.
“It is also known that we are looking for a centre-forward. We are in a good way.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While one can understand why Kane would be tempted to jump ship to Manchester United or Real Madrid, the striker likely never seriously considered a switch to Bayern.
If a move to United or Madrid is not on the cards this summer, the 29-year-old would remain at Spurs.
