Police searching for suspect who robbed gas station clerk at gunpoint in Southington
A gas station clerk was robbed at gunpoint in Southington late Tuesday.
The robbery was reported at about 11 p.m. at the Mobil gas station at 1896 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, where a masked man entered the store and asked to use the bathroom, emerging moments later with a handgun, according to the Southington Police Department. The suspect pointed the “Glock-style” gun at the clerk, threw a garbage bag at him and demanded the cash from the register, police said.
The clerk handed over the cash register drawer, which had somewhere between $1,500 and $1,800 in it, before the suspect fled, according to police.
No injuries were reported.
Connecticut State Police and officers from Cheshire assisted Southington police during a search for the suspect, but he was not located.
“Officers were able to track the suspect’s movements and are working to obtain additional evidence to identify the suspect,” Southington police Lt. Keith Egan said in a statement Wednesday. “Southington detectives responded and processed the scene, obtaining evidence and video of the incident.”
Egan on Wednesday said the video was not available to be released.
The suspect was described as wearing a black puffy coat, dark pants, white sneakers and a mask.
