Man stabbed outside CT brewery after intervening in fight involving Uber driver
A man was stabbed outside of a brewery in Manchester after stepping in to break up an alleged fight between two men and an Uber driver, police said.
Officers responded to Elicit Brewing at 165 Adams St. about 2 a.m. Sunday and found a 31-year-old man from Ellington who had been stabbed. The man had a “serious laceration” on his left forearm and had been brought into the brewery by staff members who were trying to control the bleeding, according to the Manchester Police Department.
He was rushed to Hartford Hospital where he underwent surgery, police said.
The man told police that he had gone outside to get into an Uber that had arrived to pick him up and saw two men fighting with an Uber driver. He tried to intervene in the fight and was stabbed, police said.
The Uber driver drove off, police said, but officers identified the two men who were allegedly involved in the fight. One of the men, identified as 26-year-old Malik Simmons of Vernon, followed orders by police to get on the ground and was taken into custody, police said.
The other man, identified as Yishay Brooks, 26, of Windsor, got into a vehicle and ignored officers’ orders to turn off the vehicle and get out, police said.
He fought with officers as they tried to remove him from the vehicle. Officers deployed a Taser and Brooks “was eventually brought under control and detained,” police said in a statement.
Brooks and Simmons both allegedly admitted to being involved in a fight with the Uber driver but denied having knives or being involved in a stabbing, police said.
They are both charged with interfering with police and second-degree breach of peace. They were both being held in lieu of $25,000 bond and were scheduled to appear in court on June 20, police said.
