Sports briefs: Pacifics extend win streak to seven games
Starting pitcher Kohto Hasegawa struck out eight hitters in seven innings of work to help lead the San Rafael Pacifics to a 5-2 victory against the Vallejo Seaweed on Saturday.
Hasegawa threw 99 pitches, allowing three hits and one earned run. Daniel Crossan delivered the game’s biggest hit for the Pacifics (13-2 Pecos League) with a two-run double in the sixth to make it 4-1.
Tyler Georgeson had two of the six hits for the Pacifics and drove in a run. Nick Smith had a hit and drove in his 17th run on the season.
The Pacifics stretched their win streak to seven consecutive games having also picked up a 9-5 win against Marysville on Friday night. John Bicos had three hits and two RBIs in that game and Kyle Guerra drove in three runs.
Knicks split a pair
Former San Marin High standout Josh Martin hit a two-run homer on Saturday to help the Novato Knicks win the first game of a doubleheader, 8-7 against the Sacramento Yankees.
Martin had three RBIs in Saturday’s victory, which was sandwiched in between a pair of losses against the Sonoma Stompers on Friday night and Saturday, respectively.
Shane Callison drove in the lone run for the Knicks (6-4) in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Sonoma.
Marin Waves
San Rafael resident Ellie McCuskey-Hay finished first in the heptathlon at the Arlevia Livingston meet at James Logan High in Union City this weekend.
McCuskey-Hay took first in several events, including the long jump, javelin and 800 meters to finish first in the Girls 15-16 division.
Thomas Zang (Boys 17-18) took third place in the decathlon, highlighted by first-place finishes in the long jump, 400 meters and 110 hurdles.
Also competing at the meet for the Waves were Justin Shern (first place in the Boys 13-14 1,500 meters) and Jacob Gomez Nilsson (second in the Boys 13-14 1,500 meters).
