I raided the supermarket fridge after spotting butter for 10p… trolls say it’ll go off but I know how to keep it fresh
A SHOPPER has shared the clever way he will store ten blocks of butter after nabbing them for a mere 10p each.
As the cost-of-living crisis continues to soar, Brits love a good bargain more than ever – so when Ben Gwaspari spotter butter selling for 10p, he didn’t think twice.
The dad, from the UK, was doing his shopping in ASDA when he stumbled across the incredible deal.
According to Ben, the Kerrygold Pure Irish butter typically retails for an eye-watering £2.60 – but as the expiry date was nearing, the store had reduced the price to just 10p.
Stunned by the sale, the delighted customer stocked up on the dairy essential, nabbing ten blocks.
What normally would’ve cost him a whopping £26, Ben managed to spend just a quid on, saving an impressive £25.
The post, uploaded on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK page on Facebook, went viral, winning over 3.1k likes.
Hundreds of fellow shoppers raced to comments, where many wondered about one thing in particular – how will he store the butter that’s about to go off?
Ben, luckily, seemed to have the perfect hack for ensuring there is no food waste – he will chuck them in the freezer.
According to landolakes.com, ”properly stored butter can be frozen for up to four months if frozen prior to the USE BY date on the package”.
After this, butter may begin to lose its fresh taste and even pick up unpleasant flavours from the freezer if stored for longer.
The experts advised to use it within 30 days once the butter is removed from the freezer.

Another also vouched for the freezer hack: ”My dad made butter in a factory for 40 odd years and always froze the extra butter that he brought home.”
”Wow! Amazing bargain! Well done you!” someone else wrote.
”Great bargain, never mind the haters. Enjoy your toast or crumpets,” another member of the group penned.
