Two people in serious condition following fire at multi-family home in Hartford
Two people were in serious condition following a fire at a multi-family home in the early morning hours in Hartford on Monday.
The fire broke out at about 1 a.m. on Bulkley Avenue where the first firefighters on scene found the second floor of the home engulfed in flames, according to the Hartford Fire Department. The fire was contained to the area of origin, firefighters said.
Hartford Dep. Fire Chief James York said crews vented the structure while others searched for victims.
One adult and one child were rescued from the home and were given CPR until medics arrived. They were in serious condition at an area hospital, according to firefighters.
Two others from the home — another adult and a child — were treated at an area hospital for smoke inhalation, firefighters said. Additionally, two firefighters suffered what were described as minor injuries.
The American Red Cross is assisting the 10 people displaced by the fire.
The Hartford Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
