Report: Two London clubs could rival Tottenham for centre-back target
According to Roma Giallorossa, West Ham United and Chelsea are also interested in Tottenham target Roger Ibanez.
The updates about Ibanez’s future have been coming thick and fast from Italy over the last week, with multiple outlets claiming that Roma have to cash in on someone before the end of the month to fulfil their FFP requirements.
The latest such claim was carried by the print editions of Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport (15/06/23 via Sport Witness), who reported a few days ago that Roma director Tiago Pinto was in London to discuss the centre-back’s potential sale to Tottenham.
West Ham and Chelsea are looking at Roger Ibanez
Roma Giallorossa have now asserted that it is not just Spurs who Pinto will be speaking to regarding Ibanez but also Chelsea and West Ham.
It is asserted that while the Serie A club are hoping to sell the Brazilian for €30m-€35m (£25.6m-£29.8m), Tottenham are only willing to pay €20m (£17m) for the player’s services.
This is why Roma are said to be hoping that the Hammers and the Blues make a move for Ibanez.
The outlet suggests that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy could even include Ruben Loftus-Cheek in a deal for the 24-year-old defender, which would be welcomed by Jose Mourinho.
Spurs Web Opinion
Roma would be hoping to get a bidding war going for Ibanez to push his asking price to around £30m but there is no indication that such a bidding war is likely among the aforementioned London clubs.
In fact, it does not even appear as if the Brazilian is near the top of Spurs’ wishlist, with the likes of Maguire, Laporte and Guehi seemingly being preferred options.
I would be surprised if Tottenham offered more than £15m-£20m for the Roma star.
