I had the biggest disagreement ever with my man over refurbing my house – I got my way… but it’s really divided opinion
AN interior design fan went head to head with her partner on how to makeover their hallway.
And while the couple eventually opted for an all blue theme like she’d suggested, it went on to majorly divide opinion.
Roisin, who shares DIY updates on her TikTok account @geebungalow, shared how they’d not seen eye to eye on what they should do to the entrance area to their home.
In a video cheekily captioned ‘we compromised and did what I wanted to do,’ the Australian woman explained the back story, before unveiling the results.
She told her 78.7k followers: “This is one of the biggest disagreements my husband and I have ever had in our time renovating houses together.
“I think he thought I had lost my mind completely when I said I wanted to paint the entire hallway blue so I had my work cut out for me to lobby him and really get him to see my vision.”
After Roisin used her best persuasion skills, her husband Zach eventually agreed – although it seemed he still needed a little convincing.
Roisin then shared how they went about transforming the space, including restoring the timber floors by sanding them back and applying a matte oil.
Next, they plastered anywhere that needed touching up, and chose “the all important blue paint.”
She explained: “I tried so many samples and this is where I just really had to get Zach to trust me.”
But the pair continued with Roisin’s plan, as they applied a shade of blue called Shades of Evening.
Alongside footage of her painting the walls, she said: “It is the most perfect grey blue.”
Once the paint had been applied and left to dry, Zach then created a panelled look, which they then gave the same colour of paint.
Describing the process as “a labour of love” and “an arduous task”, Roisin then added that it was well worth it in her opinion.
She said: “It really makes all of the difference.”
And it seems Zach also changed his mind about the makeover.
Roisin went on: “We usually never disagree on design decisions for the house and, once we started, he totally bought in.”
The couple then showed how they completed the look with artwork from local thrift stores, and described the finished look as “so beautiful”.
However, after Roisin posted the before and after look at the hallway, it seemed not everyone was convinced they’d done the right thing.
One TikTok user said: “Was expecting a rich, dark royal blue. Looks washed out.”
A second added: “Not for me. It reminds me of the nursing home I work in.”
And a third typed: “It looks kind of like a hospital corridor.”
But others were a big fan and said they would happily have the decor in their own home, branding it “stunning.”
