Wins For Al Manar Racing & Oregon Team At Hungaroring
Race 1
Al Faisal Al Zubair and Fabian Schiller took their second win of the 2023 GT Open season in the Al Manar Racing by GetSpeed Mercedes in a lively Race 1 at the Hungaroring on Saturday.
The pair beat off challenges from the Eastalent Racing Audi of Stefan Reicher-Christopher Haase and the Oregon Team Lambo of Maximilian Paul-Pierre Louis Chovet, who led for a long while but was passed at the very end and dropped to third after a 5-second penalty for refuelling with the engine on.
Sam De Haan-Charlie Fagg (Optimum Motorsport McLaren) finished fourth ahead of Diego Menchaca-Marco Siebert (Motopark Mercedes) who dropped out of the final top three after a spin and an 18-second penalty for not serving the entire handicap.
In Pro-Am, Marco Pulcini-Eddie Cheever (AF Corse Ferrari) took their second success of the season, ahead of Steve Jans-Axel Blom (GetSpeed Mercedes) and the pole-setter Bonaldi Motorsport Lambo of Martin Kodric-Andrzej Lewandowski.
Race 2
Maximilian Paul and Pierre-Chovet gave Oregon Team and the Lamborghini Huracan Evo2 their first win of the season in Sunday’s race 2 at Hungaroring.
The German driver was third on the last lap, in a group of four fighting for second behind the leading Optimum Motorsport McLaren of Sam De Haan. The Brit though was sent wide few corners from the flag by Nicola Marinangeli (AF Corse Ferrari) and Paul managed to pass the AF Corse Ferrari of Nicola Marinangeli in the very last corner.
Marinanengeli and Riccardo Agostini crossed the line second but were demoted to fifth after receiving a 10-second penalty, leaving the two junior podium positions to Diego Menchaca- Marcos Siebert (Motopark Mercedes) and Faisal Al Zubair-Fabian Shiller (Al Manar Racing Mercedes).
The Optimum McLaren of De Haan-Fagg was eventually fourth and kept the championship lead, three points ahead of Menchaca-Siebert and 12 on Reicher-Haase (Eastalent Audi), who retired with mechanical problems after taking the pole and leading the first stint.
In Pro-Am, reigning champions Marcin Jedlinski-Karol Basz (Olimp Racing Audi) took their first win of the season ahead of Frédéric Jousset-David Fumanelli (Kessel Racing Ferrari) and Dexter Müller-Yannick Mettler (CBRX by SPS Mercedes), while Giuseppe Cipriani (Barone Rampante Lambo) dominated in Am ahead of Kiki San Nana-Adam Osieka (Getspeed Mercedes) and Ernst Kirchmays-Philipp Baron (Baron Motorsport Ferrari). The Italian is now joint leader in the standings.
