Domantas Sabonis, Kings Reportedly Agree to Massive Five-Year Extension

0

The Kings and star center Domantas Sabonis has reportedly reached an agreement on a lucrative contract renegotiation and extension, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Sabonis’s new deal runs for five years, and he’s due to earn a whopping $217 million throughout its course. Of that, $195 million is reportedly new money.

The 27-year-old was set to enter the final year of his contract in 2023-24 and was due to earn $19.4 million. He had previously been under a four-year, $74 million deal in Sacramento, which he had originally signed with the Pacers in 2020.

Sabonis will be under contract with the Kings through the 2027-28 season, and he’ll pocket an average annual value of $43.4 million with his big-money extension.

Sabonis was acquired by the Kings from the Pacers as part of a blockbuster trade involving Tyrese Haliburton during the 2021-22 season. He’s since become an integral factor in Sacramento’s success, helping the team snap its lengthy playoff drought last season.

Across 79 games in 2022-23, Sabonis averaged 19.1 points, a league-high 12.3 rebounds, and a career-best 7.3 assists per game en route to his third All-Star Game appearance.

He and De’Aaron Fox are both now locked in on long-term contracts as the Kings look to continue building around their two centerpieces. Sacramento also

signed reigning Euroleague MVP Sasha Vezenkov on Saturday.
