VARADERO, CUBA July 2 – Russia’s first scheduled flight to Cuba since 2022 landed on Sunday in Cuba, TASS reports.
The flight took place a few days after Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu hosted a visit from Cuba’s Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Alvaro Lopez Miera. The Kremlin says the two men discussed military projects
The flight to Cuba from Russia took about 13 hours, according to officials in Moscow. The Rossiya airline flight departed Moscow from Sheremetyevo International Airport.
The flight was made by a Boeing-777 airplane, with almost 100% seat occupancy, officials said. Flights will be made twice per week, on Thursday and Saturday.
“The demand for tickets is enormous,” said Rossiya airlines spokesman Sergey Starikov.
The flights are taking place amid reports that China has set up a spy base in Cuba in the hamlet of Bejucal, barely 100 miles off the coast of Florida
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately return a request for comment from Soldier of Fortune.
