UCF lands commitment from 4-star linebacker Qua Birdsong
UCF has been a member of the Big 12 for less than 48 hours and the Knights landed their third verbal commitment of the weekend, receiving a pledge from 4-star Georgia linebacker Qua Birdsong Sunday afternoon.
Birdsong joins Dr. Phillips defensive back Jashad Presley, who committed Friday and Waltclaire Flynn Jr., a 4-star offensive lineman from Loganville, Ga., who made his announcement Saturday.
He announced his decision live on Instagram, announcing he was a Knight. “Let’s do it,” he said.
The 6-foot-2 Birdsong is the No. 373 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports and the No. 33 linebacker. He committed to Cincinnati on April 18 but backed off that pledge on June 15 after his official visit to UCF on June 2. His commitment is the ninth for the Knights, who now have the No. 57-ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
A two-sport athlete at Troup County (LaGrange) High, Birdstrong played varsity football and basketball for the Tigers. He was a two-way standout on the gridiron, playing both tight end and linebacker, totaling 47 tackles with 12.5 tackles for loss his junior season and 47 yards receiving. He averaged 3.3 points and 1.0 rebounds in 6 games at center for the basketball team.
Birdsong also received offers from Arkansas, Miami, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and USC.
He’s the second linebacker to pledge to the class, joining Derrick McCormick (Rockledge).
