We were fed up with our brick house, so we painted it white – we did the trees too, people always make the same remark
A COUPLE have revealed how they gave their red brick house a new look by painting it all white – and the trees did not escape the artistic touch either.
Crafty husband and engineer wife duo only known as @thenavagepatch shared the transformation on TikTok after lime-washing their red brick property.
According to the DIY hubby, he never appreciated the original house, which he described as ”eye-stabbing ugliness”.
”I don’t like red brick – at all.”
To his surprise, the wife, who appeared to not have an issue with the old design, agreed to paint their home all white.
Unlike regular paint and latex that form a film over the surface, lime wash gets drawn into the brick, where it calcifies.
In other terms, the DIY fanatic explained in the video, water won’t dissolve the lime after calcification – so even rain won’t ruin the aesthetic.
To fully hide the red brick colour, the duo opted to go for two layers of the paint, using a small brush in the application process.
Looking back at the lengthy project, which took the family several days, the father said that lime-washing was ”immensely satisfying”.
But, as they soon revealed, the property glow-up did not stop there.
After falling in love with their newly painted house, the wife urged her hubby to give the nearby trees a glow-up too.
He explained: ”A lime wash house wouldn’t be anything more than a lipstick on a pig if we didn’t do something about the sad and the neglected landscaping.”
As well as completing a full makeover in their garden with contrasting colours and pebbles, the couple decided to paint the trees with the same white solution.
”I’m not some unhinged lunatic. Lime-washed trees are common in the shrimp’s [wife’s] native Turkey and many other countries around the world.”
According to the savvy hubby, the paint protects the trees from sunburn, disease and insects.
Besides the benefits, he also insisted that the lime wash also made the trees ”look good”.
Posted on TikTok less than a day ago, the chic makeover has already gone viral, winning them more than 3.7million views.
After seeing the Before and After photos, social media users all agreed on one thing – the transformation was jaw-dropping and the efforts had been worth it.
One said: ”Lime wash turned out nice.”
Another added: ”oh my goodness .I usually hate painted brick but your house looks gorgeous.”
Someone else added: ”I think it looks great, tremendous work. Only thing I think still needs tweaking is the front entrance…doesn’t seem to fit exactly right.”
”I like the old light, I’m so happy y’all limewashed it looks great over the years. neighbors did there’s 50 years ago [sic],” a fourth penned.
