I tried Kim & Kourtney Kardashian’s viral $110 ‘Zombie face mask’ – it’s meant to be anti-aging but I looked terrifying
ONE celebrity-rated beauty product has made waves on the internet, not for its facial benefits but for its movie-like special effects.
I tried the viral Hanacure Tightening Face Mask the Kardashian sisters love, and I looked like I could star in a zombie thriller.
Not to mention the product was so tight my face burned. Not really what you want after spending $110.
In 2019, Kourtney posted a photo of her and Kim on Instagram with the mask on.
Her caption read: “Kim convinced me to use this face mask, and I feel stunning.”
The two reality star sisters flashed a restrained smile as the product dried, pulling and caving their skin.
Both looked as if they’d emerged from the dead, prompting commenters to say they looked like they should be in a horror film.
Yet, oddly enough, the Hanacure Tightening Face Mask is supposed to have the opposite effect – helping with anti-aging and lifting.
It’s just you really can’t tell when it’s on.
Intrigued fans have rushed to try the brand’s product since then, dubbing it the viral “zombie face mask.”
Aside from the Kardashian sisters, other A-listers, such as Drew Barrymore, have raved about the Hanacure product.
For $110, The All-In-One Facial Set includes four individual masks and one applicator brush.
I wasn’t ready to commit to the whole set, so I purchased the $29 All-In-One Facial Starter.
The technology, Octolift, combines soothing and restoring properties with naturally-occurring ingredients like lotus flowers and peptides.
Beta-Glucan, Lotus Flower, White Peony, Sophora Root, Copper Tripeptide-1, Nicotinoyl Dipeptide-22, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Dipeptide-10, and more are included.
When Octolift reacts with the carbon dioxide in the air, the skin is tightened and can absorb antioxidants and synthesize elastin.
The peptides allow the skin to produce more collagen too.
Admittedly, my initial interest wasn’t in the effect the technology would have on my skin.
I wanted to look terrifying with it on, simple as that, and I did.
With shipping, I spent a total of $38.10.
And that’s not factoring in the costs not accounted for — like the 15 minutes it took me to figure out how to prep the product.
I’ve never known a face mask to be difficult to figure out, let alone open.
My experience has only been with packaged masks that require you to put a sheet on your face or squirt it on a brush and spread.
However, Hanacure makes you work to look like a zombie.
To start, I was tasked with cleansing and drying my face.
Once my skin was cleaned, I moved on to fashion the solution.
I felt like I was performing a science experiment, mixing the content to concoct a new product.
But I wasn’t very good at it. The first step was to remove the top of the Octolift Ampoule vile.
The instructions told me to put my thumb down on the top and lift.
It took me and my roommate a few minutes before we eventually uncapped the tiny tube.
And just when I thought I was in the clear, I couldn’t remove the aluminum foil wrapped around the top underneath.
The tip of my thumbnail ripped off as I attempted to pull back the sharp material.
At this point, I was already over it. I had washed my face 15 minutes ago, and the product wasn’t even on my skin yet.
Nevertheless, I continued with the instructions.
Next, I was told to pour the Octolift Ampoule into the Octolift solution, but I wasn’t supposed to open the solution package all the way.
Once the Ampoule was in the solution, I shook the contents together for 20 seconds, and only then could I peel the top off all the way.
The consistency of the product was gel-like and felt cooling on the skin.
However, it wasn’t long before the product began to dry, and my face felt as if it was being stretched in different directions.
It took about 10 minutes for me to become a zombie — metaphorically, of course.
But when the product dried, it pulled my under-eye bags down and created defined wrinkles in my skin.
The effect was ironic given the mask’s anti-aging claims.
As the product sat on my skin longer, I felt a burning sensation.
Because my skin is sensitive, I immediately rushed to rinse it with warm water.
The aftermath was a red blotchy mess, and residue from the mask was flaking into little sticky balls at the corners of my face.
I had the mask on for 14 minutes, and the only noticeable effect was discoloration.
Looking back at the photos, I can see a difference in how tight my face looked after I took it off.
With the monetary and physical costs, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it.
Don’t get me wrong — I liked looking like I could be on The Walking Dead.
But I won’t purchase this product again as someone with sensitive skin.
