My free tip will banish garden pests and stop them coming back – or simply grow any of my 12 plants to keep them away
A GARDENING enthusiast has shared her handy tips for deterring pests from your flowerbed.
The content creator also revealed the best plants to grow to keep your garden pest-free.
In the caption of her clip, TikTok user Sabrina (@sabrina.sustainable.life) explained: “It’s best to try to prevent pests before they make their way to your garden.”
First, the TikToker advised her followers to regularly check on their plants.
“This way you’re able to stop things early before they get worse and be sure to check under leaves and in crevices because that’s where bugs love to hide,” she said.
Sabrina also revealed that weeding your flowerbeds regularly will also help to deter pests.
“Weeds can hide symptoms of pests and disease on your plants,” she explained.
The influencer continued: “Weeding prevents pests in your garden by eliminating their habitats, it also improves air circulation, enables easier pest detection, and enhances overall plant health.”
And if you’re looking for another way to repel pests, Sabrina also shared the best companion plants to add to your garden.
“Herbs are a great way to repel pests in your garden because their strong aroma naturally deters pests,” she told viewers.
Sabrina listed mint, lavender, basil, garlic, chives, rosemary, and thyme as the best natural pest repellants.
The TikToker also advised her audience to look into marigold plants, which she said pests also don’t like.
She added: “You can also use trap crops like nasturtiums, sunflowers, radishes, and mustard greens, which actually attract aphids but keep them off of your other plants.”
In a second clip, Sabrina showed her followers how to remove insects from various plants without spending any money.
“This is what I do when I find pests. First, I cut off any part of the plant that is very infested,” she explained.
The green-thumbed influencer continued: “I just take my hose and put it on the cone or flat setting and then I just simply spray them off of the plants.”
Sabrina also recommended spraying a natural insecticide to permanently remove the scent paths to prevent the pests from returning to your flowerbed.
