Journalist backs Spurs to close deal for sixth summer signing in a ‘few days’ – Not Micky Van de Ven
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has said that Tottenham Hotspur are edging close to agreeing on a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of Edmond Tapsoba and that a transfer could be agreed upon in a few days.
It has been widely reported over the last week that Spurs have their eyes on Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky Van Den but there have been contradictory reports regarding who the London club’s top target is between the two.
Fabrizio Romano reported last Wednesday that Spurs had opened talks over a deal for Van de Ven as they saw him as a less expensive option than Tapsoba.
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs told Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel last Thursday that Spurs are likely to pursue the Wolfsburg star as they are expected to face plenty of competition for the Leverkusen centre-back’s signature.
It was then reported today that Spurs had agreed personal terms with Van de Ven (Mike Verweij), as well as a £30m deal with Wolfsburg (Mirror).
However, Alasdair Gold stated via Football.London that from what he is hearing, Tapsoba remains Tottenham’s top target for the left-sided centre-back role.
Tottenham are close to signing Edmond Tapsoba
Galetti has now claimed that Spurs are making progress in their efforts to sign the 24-year-old and backed the Lilywhites to ‘close the deal’ in the ‘next few days’.
When asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of Taposba, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “On the table, there is around €25m and the German club is concretely evaluating this proposal.
“Last winter, Arsenal asked them for him but then now they decide to go for Timber, who is close as well.
“So, the Burkina Faso player [Tapsoba], we can say that is one step away from joining Tottenham. In the next few days, they will push and close the deal positively.”

There have been different fees reported by different sources for Taposoba but €25m (£21.4) seems extremely low.
I would be surprised if Leverkusen were willing to sell the player that low a price, particularly if it is true that there are other clubs in the race.
It also remains to be seen whether Spurs push ahead with both Van de Ven and Tapsoba, with lots of conflicting reports out there regarding which Tottenham are closest to signing.
