The 2023 PCL South All-Star roster announced, 8 Clams set for Coy Tillet
Edenton, NC – The 2023 Premier Collegiate League Southern All-Star roster was announced Sunday afternoon. The roster features eight Steamers who will travel to Manteo, Thursday, for the 2023 PCL All-Star Game.
Pitchers Chandler Padgett, John Horton, and Ben Bausas were selected after impressive first halves.
Horton leads the team in appearances (12), saves (3), and is second on the team in strikeouts (25).
Padgett has been the Clams’ ace on the hill. The right-handed arm leads the team in wins (4), strikeouts (32), and innings pitched (28.0). Padgett became the first pitcher since Zach Prendergast in 2015 to have a sub-1.00 earned run average in a calendar month.
Bausas has been exceptional as both a starter and a reliever for the Steamers. The Virginia Beach, VA native has pitched in 7 games and started two with a 2.13 ER. Bausas threw 8 innings of one-hit ball in the 5-0 win over Uwharrie on June 25th.
In the field, the Steamers will send outfielders Ryan Kay and Drifton Padgett, catcher/ outfielder Geomar Santana, catcher Macon Winslow, and second baseman Luke Myers. Winslow will be honored but will not play due to prior engagements with Duke University.
Kay is a front-runner in many offensive statistics for the Clams. The left fielder leads the team in hits (19), third on the team in average (.317), and second in stolen bases (6).
Padgett has been a steady presence in the Steamers lineup and in center field all season. The Rocky Mount native has recorded 40 total catches, 36 putouts, and 4 outfield assists. At the dish, Padgett has a .200 batting average with a team-high 18 walks and hit by pitches.
Santana has brought a strong bat and versatility in the field for the Clams. The right-handed hitting Santana leads the team in on-base percentage (.510), is second on the team in batting average (.321), and is one of two Steamers with a triple. In the field, the Vega Baja, Puerto Rico native has played at least one game as the extra hitter, right fielder, catcher, and left fielder.
Myers has provided a steady presence at the top of the Steamers lineup and exceptional defense. The second baseman has played in all 21 games so far for the Clams and has a .250 batting average with 15 RBIs (second on the team). In the field Myers has just 1 error in 56 putouts with 12 double-plays.
The 2023 PCL All-Star game is Thursday, July 6th at Coy Tillet Field in Manteo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
