CT man charged with threatening, kidnapping arrested after hitting multiple police cars
An Ansonia man charged with kidnapping a victim from their home in Norwalk earlier this week was arrested after he allegedly drove into multiple police cars during a pursuit, police said.
The Norwalk Police Department received a complaint Wednesday that Enrique Rivas-Castillo, 23, had threatened someone on the phone.
During the investigation, officers learned that Rivas-Castillo had allegedly kidnapped the victim from their home in Norwalk Monday.
According to police, Rivas-Castillo allegedly threatened to assault the victim. When the victim ran from their house, Rivas-Castillo allegedly chased them down, grabbed them and pulled them into his vehicle. He then allegedly drove the victim onto Interstate 95, took an unknown exit and drove onto a dead-end street where he began punching them, police said.
The victim told police they tried to escape but was caught by Rivas-Castillo, who allegedly grabbed them, hit them and slammed their face on the ground. Rivas-Castillo then dragged the victim back to the car and drove to his home in Ansonia, according to the victim.
The victim told police they were drugged, woke up the next day and was assaulted again. The victim then escaped and was able to return home, police said.
Rivas-Castillo was arrested by Ansonia police for the incident in Ansonia.
Officers later learned Rivas-Castillo was in Norwalk looking for the victim, according to police.
Patrol officers quickly located Rivas-Castillo in his vehicle. When officers attempted to make a stop, he led them on a pursuit through South Norwalk and onto I-95 East, police said.
He then exited I-95 in Westport and drove back onto the highway headed westbound, according to police. The pursuit ended in Stamford after he hit multiple police cars.
Police said Rivas-Castillo then ran from his vehicle and jumped off the I-95 overpass near Exit 6, but he was quickly taken into custody with the help of the Stamford Police Department.
Rivas-Castillo was transported to Stamford Hospital for evaluation, according to police. Once he was released from the hospital, Rivas-Castillo was transported back to the Norwalk Police Department where he was charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree threatening, violation of conditions of release, interfering/resisting arrest, use of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell hallucinogenic substances, reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit.
He was being held in lieu of $1 million bail and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
