I’m an interior whizz, there are three things that make every bedroom look tacky & my cheap hacks to keep it classy
AN interior expert has flagged three major things that make your bedroom look tacky – and we’re in for a shock.
Style and cleaning guru Chantel Mila says cluttered bedside tables take your space from classy to tacky in seconds but there are easy tricks to fix it.
Chantel posted her top tips online to help cash-strapped families feel more fancy.
Showing off her own fabulous room, she says: “Three inexpensive ways to make your bedroom look expensive.”
First and foremost, Chantel claims scent is everything.
If your bedroom smells stale, the style will feel stale too.
“A fresh room starts with a fresh mattress,” she says, filming herself pouring a mix of water and essential oils into a stylish carafe.
“Mix water, white vinegar and lavender or peppermint oil to deodorise and freshen your mattress,” she adds.
Chantel uses a spray bottle to lightly douse her mattress in the pleasant-smelling liquid, making her boudoir smell like a fabulous spa.
Don’t put your sheets on top straight away – allow the mattress to air dry to avoid damp or any unpleasant wet spots.
Next, she says it’s vital to declutter those bedside tables. Afterall, they’re the first things you see when you wake up each morning – and the last things you see at night.
A messy table equals a stressy mind.
“Declutter your bedside but leave three items that bring you joy,” she says.
The pro films herself wiping down her styling bedside tables and popping a posh tray on top with some scented candles and tasteful dried leaves in a vase.
Finally, the expert suggests creased bed sheets are a massive no-no, and signal a lazy homeowner.
But don’t worry – there’s a super easy way to banish wrinkles.
“Remove wrinkles from your sheets without ironing,” she says. “Dampen [tumble] dryer balls before adding them to your dryer.
Chantel’s followers have praised her fabulous tips, and they’ve all shared their verdicts in the TikTok video comments.
One user gushed: “I did the mattress spray with my favourite scent, lemongrass. I ended up spraying my couch and cushions too. My bedroom smells heavenly.”
A second replied: “Very important to look expensive.”
And a third said: “Watching you organise things is such great therapy.”
