Club Pushing To Sign Aston Villa Midfielder, Have Lead Over Rivals

He joined the Villa Park outfit in 2021 from Marseille on a £14m deal and expectations were high for his future in England.

The move, however, did not go as planned for the Frenchman and he has mostly played a sporadic role for the Villans.

A host of clubs were interested in signing Sanson in January, but the player chose Strasbourg in a loan switch and played a vital role in their midfield.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe (print edition), Lille are pushing their case to sign Sanson from the Birmingham-based outfit.

It has been claimed that Les Dogues are initially looking to borrow him on a loan with an option to buy at the end of it.

Strasbourg are also keen to keep hold of their star loanee permanently, however, Lille could be a more interesting prospect for Sanson and it is claimed they currently hold the lead in the chase.

It remains to be seen if Lille will submit an official bid for the midfielder in the upcoming days with two years left on his contract with the Villa Park outfit.
