‘I dread to think’ – Paul Merson is scared of one thing at Spurs next season
Paul Merson has admitted that he is dreading the thought of how many goals Harry Kane will get at Tottenham next season now that he has James Maddison to create chances for him.
Spurs agreed to a £40m deal with Leicester City for the transfer of Maddison, with the signing widely seen as one of the bargains of the summer.

The 26-year-old has been one of the best playmakers in the Premier League over the last few years and even managed 10 goals and nine assists in 32 appearances in a relegated Foxes side last campaign (Transfermarkt).
Merson is scared of Kane’s goal potential at Spurs
Merson believes that Kane is going to have a lot more chances to feast on now that his England teammate has joined the club.
The former Arsenal midfielder told Sky Sports about the Spurs striker: “He scored 30 league goals last season for Tottenham, for Tottenham. And who’s playing with him at Spurs? He has to do it all himself virtually.
“If he stays at Spurs next season with James Maddison now there, I dread to think how many goals he will get.”
However, there remains a question mark regarding Kane’s future at Tottenham, with Bayern Munich seemingly not giving up their pursuit of the 29-year-old (Rudy Galetti).
Merson insisted that he cannot see a compelling reason why the England captain would want to move to the Allianz Arena.
The pundit added: “I cannot for the life of me see Kane join Bayern Munich. Why would you get to within 47 goals of Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record and then go to Bayern to help them win the Bundesliga for the 97th time on the trot? Why would you go? What for?”
Spurs Web Opinion
Merson’s point about winning a Bundesliga title with Bayern not being a big achievement is correct.
However, Kane would perhaps be convinced by Thomas Tuchel that the German club would have a legitimate chance of getting their hands on the Champions League trophy within the next couple of years.
