I love adding new plants into my garden but I can’t afford it anymore – now my ‘scavenge’ means I get them for free
THE cost of living crisis is affecting everyone and everything.
From the price of food, to gardening items and even plants – everyone is feeling the pinch.
Sophie Broadhurst is one of them – but has since discovered a hack which means she won’t miss out on adding plants to her garden.
Sharing a video to her TikTok, she captioned it: “Everything’s getting more expensive, even plants!
“I have a big empty garden that needs to be filled but no cash to fill it, feeling very fortunate I have a couple of established garden beds I can take some plants from to fill it.”
In the video, she wrote: “When you don’t have enough money for new plants, you scavenge plants that grew themselves in odd places.”
Sophie filmed herself out on a walk through an established garden bed, searching for different types of plants.
She first discovered Stachys Byzantina Lambs Ears, dug it out and added it to her basket and took them to her garden to plant and water.
Stachys byzantina is a species of flowering plant in the mint family Lamiaceae, native to Armenia, Iran, and Turkey.
It is cultivated over much of the temperate world as an ornamental plant, and is naturalised in some locations as an escapee from gardens.
She finishes the video by writing: “Stay tuned as I create this garden with scavenged and propagated plants hopefully for free.”
Many people liked the video, whilst one commented.
It read: “Such a good ethos, the plant industry is becoming more capitalist by the minute.”
